Abstract:   (4 Views)
Introduction: This study aims to identify social issues in the deprived neighborhoods of Region 2 of Tabriz Municipality and provide scientific solutions for policy making. The research employs a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative). The study population consists of the residents of the targeted neighborhoods, and sampling was conducted using the convenience sampling method. The findings indicated that poverty, addiction, unemployment, and both domestic and social violence are among the most significant problems. The study provides suggestions for better management of these social issues.
Materials and Methods: This research includes both qualitative and quantitative sections. The data collection tools consisted of semi-structured interviews, observation, and a researcher-developed checklist, the validity of which was confirmed by experts. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the checklist (0.78) indicated satisfactory reliability. Convenience sampling was used, and 155 residents from deprived neighborhoods (Qazan Daghhi, Qorkhaneh, and Shamsabad) participated. The criteria for selecting neighborhoods were based on the level of social issues, as determined by municipal and social center data. The qualitative data were analyzed using Smith's method, while the quantitative data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance.
Conclusion: The qualitative findings showed that poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, and social discrimination are among the most significant issues in these neighborhoods. Quantitative data analysis also indicated significant differences in the severity of harms across different neighborhoods. Qazan Daghi had the highest level of poverty, while Shamsabad experienced the highest rate of social violence.
Discussion: The findings of this study, by identifying how the combination of dependent variables influences the five neighborhoods under investigation, pave the way for further research aimed at reducing social harms at the city level. Additionally, they provide a basis for formulating science-based recommendations to inform more precise policies for managing social harms across the city.
